GUIDANCE AND COUNSELING
WHAT IS IT?
The Guidance and Counseling Program is an integral part of the total education program for Springfield Public Schools. The program follows the Missouri Comprehensive Guidance Program Model, which are guidelines set forth by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education. The guidance program is developmental by design and includes sequential activities organized and implemented by certified Professional School Counselors with the support of teachers, administrators, students, and parents. The district’s guidance program includes guidance curriculum, individual planning, responsive services, and system support.
Guidance Curriculum
The guidance curriculum consists of classroom lessons and large group presentations on social, emotional, and academic development.
Individual Planning
Individual planning consists of activities that help all students plan, monitor, and manage their own learning as well as their personal and career development.
Responsive Services
Responsive services are an array of activities to meet immediate needs and concerns of students and parents. This may include individual and small group counseling.
System Support
System Support is the management of activities that establish, maintain, and enhance the total guidance program and educational process.
